Your eyes say, ‘I don’t want to’
but you know you have to try
still sitting on my hand now
you want to learn to fly
You clean your feathers gently
as if to gain a little time
you spread your wings out slowly
sadness is in your eyes
You left my hand, you’re flying
your wings still touch the ground
I hide the tears I’m crying
somewhere, so they can’t be found
You fly ‘round in a circle
as if to say, ‘so long’
my eyes are going with you
watching ‘til you’re gone
I realise now that you’ve left me
I saw you fly away
somehow I can’t believe it,
wish you were here to stay
You fly across the mountains
heading towards the sea
and fly beyond the ocean
but wherever you will be
You’ll know I am still standing
I hold my hand up high
still waiting for your landing
once you’ve learned how to fly
You’ll know it when you’re gliding
somewhere all alone
you’ll remember I’m still waiting
and my hand will be your home
Then you’ll fly across the ocean
and head toward the sea
you’ll fly over the mountain
to the place we used to be
You’ll fly ‘round in a circle
as if to say, ‘Hello’
my eyes are going to sparkle
watching every move you do
You’ll glide down slow and easy
until you feel my hand
somehow you look exhausted
couldn’t find no place to land
Your eyes say, ‘I don’t have to
ever say good bye’
you’re sitting on my hand now
and you’ve learned how to fly
You clean your feathers gently
each one at a time
you fold your wings in slowly
and peace is in your eyes
